History Trivia: Edmond Berger is credited with inventing spark plugs on February 2 1839. With internal combustion engines being in their early stages of development at this time, his device would have been both revolutionary and rudimentary.

If you enjoy history we have a new aviation history fact each day at the bottom of our webpages.  Some days there may be more than one, just refresh the page.  And if you like Beatles history, checkout our Events Calendar and select the Beatles category.  This is a work in progress, we’re building the most comprehensive calendar of important dates in Beatle history.

For those that like to stick with current news, we have an aviation news ticker on our home page.  This is updated daily to show the current aviation news.

Achievements & Special Recognition: Harry conducted his 200th checkride earlier in February.

Instructors, what to highlight your students first solo or other achievement here?  Just send us a short write-up and a picture or two and we’ll post it here for you.  Click here for our contact info.

Aviation/Aviators in the news: Here’s a strange vehicle that is part sail boat, part glider. In the early 1920’s a Swiss inventor named John Domenjoz set out to create a glider that was capable of taking off using only the force of the wind. Two prototypes were built and one did actually fly, although just for a short distance.

The aviation section of the Flymall is full of aviation news, training info, and much more for the aviator.

Air show season is always just around the corner.  Want to travel to air shows in your own aircraft?  Visit our used aircraft page on the Flymall to view our inventory.

Car/Motorcycle Show News: Here’s a BMW with a highly modified and unusual engine. Something you do not see too often.

Rock Auto has once again come onboard as a sponsor for the Laytonsville Cruise In. We have $25 Rock Auto gift certificates again this year.

Prototypes: the PZL M-15. A jet engine biplane produced by the Poles for Ag flying. Top speed according to wiki was 108 knots making a Cessna 150 officially faster than a jet.

Nautical Notes: Here’s a throwback to the 1970’s when Harry was in the Sea Scouts. This was long before the Sea Scouts was a part of the Boy Scouts. Harry was in Sea Scouts Ship 370 based in Dundalk Maryland. They had numerous boats that Harry sailed on. The two most memorable were the Mermaid and the Burch. Below are the actual ships that Harry sailed on.

Here is a 42 foot Ketch, called the Mermaid.

Here is a WWII Crash Boat called the Burch.

Animals in the headlines: Did you know that Harry’s company Kraemer Aviation Services sponsors a turtle rescue? Click here for more info on the turtles in our sanctuary.

We close this newsletter with these words: Dream higher than the sky and deeper than the ocean.
