December 4, 1955: Naval airship pilot LCmdr. Charles A. Mills completes a notable icing research flight at South Weymouth, MA, flying a Goodyear ZPG blimp. Mills and his test crew take off to measure ice accretion, and return to land with a heavy coating of ice on the airship, which profoundly changes its handling. For the flight, as well as other airship icing research, Mills receives the 1956 Harmon International Trophy for Aeronauts.
