This is a rare Manco Rustler 308 three wheeler. This one is in original and unrestored condition.

They are rare although most people here prefer foreign trikes. They were made in three sizes, a 5hp (305), 8hp (308), and 10hp (310). The 10 is the rarest but they are all great finds. Fully automatic transmission. Uses a Comet style clutch, the 8 is rated at 35mph.

The first ATV as we know today was actually a 3-wheeler. Called the Sperry-Rand Tricart, it was designed in 1967. Popularity surged when Honda made the ATV a household name in 1970 with their ATC90 (All Terrain Cycle). They created these vehicles due to Honda’s urging of Honda R&D Ltd. in 1968 to create a product capable of being sold in the winter to smooth out highly seasonal motorcycle sales. Demand surged when the movie Diamonds Are Forever and the television shows Magnum, P.I. and Hart to Hart included them in their productions. At this stage, these vehicles had balloon tires and were for recreational use only. It wasn’t until 1982 when Honda came out with a utility three-wheeler that farmers, ranchers, and hunters saw the usefulness in assisting in work and sales in this area jumped.
