USS Constellation

USS Constellation

Description

USS Constellation

Built in 1854, the USS Constellation is the last all-sail warship built by the U.S. Navy and the only surviving Civil War-era naval vessel still afloat.

During its 100-year service life, it was used to patrol the African coast, where its crew captured slave ships and freed over 700 enslaved Africans. It later served as a training ship for the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.
