December 4, 1955: Aviation pioneer Glenn L. Martin dies in Baltimore at the age of 69. Martin had entered aircraft design field in 1909, and in 1918 designed the first major American bomber, the MB-1. His company produced such milestone aircraft as the B-10 bomber and the M-130 flying boat of the 1930s, the B-26 medium bomber, and the famed PBM Mariner patrol bomber of World War II. Martin had retired from active participation in the company 1952.
