May 27, 1919: The NC-4, one of four Curtiss flying boats commanded by Lt. Cmdr. Albert C. Read, completes the first transatlantic a/c crossing when it reaches Lisbon, Portugal after hops from Trepassy Bay, Newfoundland, Horta, Azores and Ponta Delgada. The Liberty-powered a/c was piloted by Walter Hinton.
