Hercules V-Twin Racer

Description

1904 Hercules V-Twin Racer (Duplicate). Glenn Curtiss set numerous speed records on this bike.

May 30 1903 Curtiss debuts his Hercules 5 HP V-Twin. He reached a top speed of 35 MPH. This marks the first V-Twin configuration in the U.S. Other manufacturers were making "multi-engine" twins that were used in tandem racers.

Glenn Curtiss used the name Hercules because he wanted a name that was as strong as his motorcycles & engines. According to Richard Leisenring Jr. in his book "Curtiss Motorcycles", Glenn Curtiss never produced bicycles under this name.
