1924 Berliner helicopterDescription1924 Berliner helicopterAfter several years of experimenting with vertical flight, Emile Berliner and his son, Henry Berliner, made the first controlled helicopter flight with this unique looking aircraft. Looking very little like the helicopter of today, the machine, made with a Nieuport 23 fighter fuselage and triplane wings, was able to maneuver in a radius if 150 feet while maintaining a speed of about 40 MPH. Though unable to perfect a safe and smooth landing, the Berliner helicopter was a step forward in the field of vertical flight. CollegeParkAviationMuseum Equipment Specifications
