It is one of three cars driven on set, and one of two cars used during the film's signature chase scene that culminated in Tom Cruise, looking straight into the camera, declaring the German carmaker's slogan, "Porsche. There is no substitute." This 928 has resided in a climate-controlled environment in a private collection, where it has been meticulously cared for. Originally painted white, the 928 was refinished in gold for the movie. Following the film's production, the car returned to California, where it was discovered and returned to its original screen appearance. This 928 has been featured at numerous museums and displays. This car was a centerpiece at Porsche Cars North America for a year and was part of the Petersen Automotive Museum's influential Porsche Effect Exhibit. While at the Petersen, Chad McQueen - son of legendary racer and actor Steve McQueen - sat in this car. The 928 also features signatures from several members of the film's cast - including Bronson Pinchot ("Barry"), Joe Pantoliano ("Guido"), Curtis Armstrong ("Miles") and Francine Locke ("Shower Girl") - and comes with several images of the car on set covered in camera rigging equipment. A sale by Barrett Jackson in 2020. The task of creating the original Batmobile was given to the famous custom car builder, George Barris. Barris was given only three weeks to produce the creation that would forever seal his name in the history books. There were just four original Barris-built Batmobiles. Batmobiles toured the country, making appearances at county fairs and race meets. This re-creation exhibition car was built by Jay Orhrberg Hollywood Cars. It was sold from a private collector in Los Angeles during the 1980s to a collector in Germany. It was then purchased by a private museum in 1991. This world traveler resided in the Cars of the Stars collection. Importantly, this re-creation was built on a 1959 Lincoln chassis with a hand-built steel body. It is finished in the classic Batmobile livery of black with red highlight lines and finished with Cragar wheels. This is an excellent truck in its original configuration with hydraulic dump bed. The carburetor had been changed sometime in the distant past by the dealership and the engine is an international harvester reman and has their reman tag attached to the block. It has a rebuilt factory mechanical fuel pump done 2 months ago. Also new plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, points and new 8 volt battery and regulator turned up to 8.75 volts. Seat frames need new cushions and upholstery. Tires will need to be replaced but four held air for 37 years while in the barn where I found it. VIN ANNOUNCEMENT
Chevrolet’s postwar Advance Design of light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks brought streamlined looks to the usual squared-off designs of the day. The 5400 was a mainstay hauler in the late ‘40s and early ‘50s, used as nearly everything from a farm vehicle to delivering gasoline to the local service station. It did it all with a 236/93 HP inline-6 engine with a 4-speed manual gearbox with “granny gear.”
This 1948 Chevrolet Thriftmaster 5400 is a combination of restoration and one off build to create the ultimate vintage car hauler. The chassis was custom fabricated to RV specs and features a fully adjustable air ride system. A 468 CI engine was inserted into the frame, dual side exhaust was added, and the engine was backed by a Turbo 400 automatic transmission. The cab was then modified from the standard, single, flat rear window to five windows to increase rearward visibility, and a custom slant bed was added, replete with polished diamond plate, hideaway, pull-out loading ramps and a 12,000-pound Badland winch that can pull everything from a Hudson to a Hummer onto the deck. Finished in Victory Red with a chrome roof visor, the truck rolls on polished aluminum wheels while a chrome grille and bumper, plus Dee Zee tool boxes, bring bling to the hauler.
Inside the cab, it’s now far more refined than what was found in 1948. Swathed in leather with red piping, the interior features upgraded electronic instruments that help keep tabs on the 468’s vitals; a tilt column and banjo-style steering wheel provides a comfortable driving position, and a Vintage air system takes care of the HVAC duties. The truck runs, however it has been sitting for several months and I would not want to drive it very far without going through a check out.
The 292 starts up, idles and accelerates.
The eight speed transmission seems to shift fine, however I have only driven it around my yard. I have not driven it on city roads.
As far as I know the truck has been in California it’s life and I do not see any major rust.

Used to drive it to work but the exhaust leak from the manifolds gets you higher than a hippy on the 4th of July. 239 original y block that has a pro setup for a wrecker. 4 speed manual with a working 2 speed Eaton Rear end. Comes with extra tires and rims. Asking 2500, will have to trailer it because of the exhaust and misfire from needing tuneup. Does not over heat and can idle for hours |

This truck Starts easy, hot or cold, idles well, drives, stops. All gauges work as far as I can tell. No major rust. Not tears in seat. No major dints or dings. AM radio works. All the lights work as of today.
The only bad stuff I can come up with- it does pull a bit to one side when stopping, not bad, but a sign one brake is working better than the other. The original headliner was torn out (I think to install the roof marker-lights?). There are a few small holes that were drilled in the roof, then filled.
I have the wood bed sides, they're solid, just need to pull out of storage.
