This very rare aircraft Stinson Detroiter SM1-B was completely restored by Chuck Wentworth at Antique Aero in Paso Robles, CA between 2004 and 2007. We have very extensive photo documentation of the entire process! With only 42.8 hrs on this aircraft and engine SMOH it is very much like brand new. Antique Aero did a beautiful restoration and it has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated. This plane has been run up and taxied on Feb 19 and our mechanic IA checked compression and all are excellent. The aircraft is not currently in annual. |

I bought it in 2018. It had not moved in 10yrs since the previous owner passed away. Since purchasing I’ve done disassembly, cleaning, and inspections. I have found some damage, mostly typical stuff, some unusual. I have acquired all of the hard to find parts to fix these issues. Plus a pile of new and used parts. Nose gear hat reinforcement, beef up kit(for bigger engines), fuel selector(clears AD), etc.
The engine is the original E-185-9 from the factory with a thousand hours since overhaul in 1991. It comes with the original bladder prop that is red tagged. I also have a complete V propeller that needs to be clipped down to Navion size.
I would prefer to sell as a package deal. I’m asking 13k or best offer, it’s currently located in Ada, MI, disassembled, off airport. I have a ton more photos and I’d be glad to tell you in nauseating detail what’s needed to get her flying. |

What I am offering for sale is a 1943 Vultee BT-13A, it was last flown in 1974 ( First Photo). It was last run in 1987, right before it was disassembled and trucked to its current location near Flint Michigan. Some restoration work has been done by the A&P owner such as the tubular structure, seats, exhaust, throttle quadrants and many other parts. You will notice that the pictures show multiples of some parts, that is because there are actually 3 BT projects located together. So you will get enough to make one airplane. This project is the best of the 3 and will include everything that was included when purchased in 1987 plus replacement monocoque and control surfaces. If you want a project that you don't have to search the world over for parts, this is the one.
This project is a very complete original one, it still had the original Military radios installed and are included.
The Pratt and Whitney R985an1 engine has 786 hours since new. 464 of that was USAAF time. All civilian logs from 1946 are included
Aircraft log starts in 1946 with 1702 hours USAAF time with the last known TT of 1977 hours in 1967, last log entry was for ferry flight in 1971. I have copies of the civilian owners log books and pictures of its 3 trips to Alaska to work on the DEW line in the 50s and 60s.
A 2D30 2 position Hamiton Standard propeller with spinner is included.
Aircraft has a clear title and is currently registered with the FAA and even has an airworthiness certificate.
This is a later A model BT that was constructed at Downey California with a wood Monocoque and control surfaces. This is the reason the aircraft was grounded in 1974, the glue was failing. ALL ALUMINUM PARTS HAVE BEEN OBTAINED (They are interchangeable with wood when replaced as an assembly) AND ARE INCLUDED WITH THIS SALE.
Instruments are included but most must be overhauled before use. To complete this restoration, the tanks must be cleaned and resealed, control surfaces recovered, engine and prop overhauled, all hardware, cables, hoses, wiring, etc must be replaced along with a lot of elbow grease.
I will welcome any and all inquiries unless you want to low ball a price, the price is pretty firm as it is worth more as parts but would rather see it restored as a complete aircraft. |
