Twas the night before the cruise in, when all through the garage<\/strong>
\nNot a vehicle was running, not even the Dodge;<\/strong>
\nThe spark plugs were removed by myself with care,<\/strong>
\nIn hopes that my mechanic would soon be here;<\/strong>
\nMy sockets were nestled all snug in their case,<\/strong>
\nWith visions of a mechanic all dressed in lace;<\/strong>
\nWhile in my shop clothes with a matching cap,<\/strong>
\nI had just settled down for a garage floor nap,<\/strong>
\nWhen out in the driveway there arose such a clatter,<\/strong>
\nI sprang from the floor to see what was the matter.<\/strong>
\nAway passed the Chevy I flew like a flash,<\/strong>
\nJumped over the Ford but hit the Nash.<\/strong>
\nHoping it was my mechanic but I didn\u2019t know<\/strong>
\nSo I directed my shop light out into the snow,<\/strong>
\nWhen, what to my wondering eyes did appear,<\/strong>
\nWas my mechanic drinking a beer!<\/strong>
\nWith his little red Vette, so shinny and quick,<\/strong>
\nWasn\u2019t an automatic, it was a stick.<\/strong>
\nMore rapid than a street rod with his tools he came,<\/strong>
\nHe stumbled and stuttered and he called me by name;<\/strong>
\nThe Chevy, the Ford both needed fixin!<\/strong>
\nAlong with a Buick once owned by Nixon!<\/strong>
\nFrom the Harley to 4×4 so big and tall!<\/strong>
\nMy mechanic he\u2019d fix them all!<\/strong>
\nHe\u2019d fixed cars and boats and things that fly,<\/strong>
\nAnd little old me I wouldn\u2019t try,<\/strong>
\nSo over to the Chevy with the big block he flew,<\/strong>
\nThe Ford, the Dodge, he fixed the Nash too.<\/strong>
\nAnd for a minute I\u2019d thought he made a goof<\/strong>
\nBut it was his beer knocked off the roof.<\/strong>
\nStartled<\/strong> and shaken he was turning around,<\/strong>
\nJust in time to see the beer hit the ground.<\/strong>
\nHe was dressed in overalls from his head to his foot,<\/strong>
\nHis clothes were all covered with grease and soot;<\/strong>
\nWith a bundle of tools flung on his back,<\/strong>
\nIf you need help again call I\u2019ll be back.<\/strong>
\nHis Vette \u2013 how sweat and clean, nothing but Cherry!<\/strong>
\nHe built it for his wife, think her name\u2019s Mary!<\/strong>
\nSo tomorrow is the cruise in and I think I will go,<\/strong>
\nInvited my wife but she doesn\u2019t know;<\/strong>
\nPolished my wheels with a toothbrush like my teeth,<\/strong>
\nThis was a tip from a friend named Keith;<\/strong>
\nAt breakfast I ate and stuffed my belly,<\/strong>
\nI had coffee and toast with strawberry jelly.<\/strong>
\nOut in the garage grab the wax off the shelf,<\/strong>
\nI waxed two cars all by myself;<\/strong>
\nI polished the Dodge so shinny and red,<\/strong>
\nSo off to the cruise in I think I\u2019ll head;<\/strong>
\nA great day for a cruise in and I don\u2019t have to work,<\/strong>
\nAn aggressive driver; what a jerk,<\/strong>
\nBut who\u2019s at the cruise in nobody knows,<\/strong>
\nI\u2019m off to the Exxon where everybody goes;<\/strong>
\nThere\u2019s my friend Tom I\u2019ll give him a whistle,<\/strong>
\nAnd there\u2019s Joe with a old Ford Edsel.<\/strong>
\nBut look at the cars here, man what a sight,<\/strong><\/p>\n
